The Minnesota Gophers Men's Basketball team traveled to Ann Arbor Michigan on Tuesday night to take on the 5th ranked Wolverines. After coming off a win over Penn State at home, this would be a huge win for the Gophers that would look great on their NCAA Tournament resume. Minnesota came out of the gates hot, leading 31-28 at half, which no one expected. The Gophers were led by Jordan Murphy who had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Gabe Kalscheur and Amir Coffey both added 11 as well to lead the Gophers. For Michigan it was standout Freshman Ignas Brazdeikis who led them with 18. In the second half Michigan would make their run and take the lead back. Minnesota scratched their way back into it and Kalscheur hit a big 3-pointer with 27 seconds left to tie the game at 57 all. On the Wolverines final possession, it was Brazdeikis who took the shot, but he couldn't hit it. Unfortunately the ball bounced out to Michigan's Charles Matthews who hit a jumper on the baseline as the buzzer went off to give them the win 59-57. Even though the Gophers lost, as a fan this was great to see. It shows that they can play with anyone in the Big Ten and are just a couple plays away from not only playing with them, but winning. Minnesota comes home on Sunday to play the Iowa Hawkeyes, which is a game I will be attending that I am very excited for.

This was a very interesting week for the Minnesota Gophers basketball team. On Saturday they got a big win at home against Rutgers. The final score was 88-70 and the Gophers were led by Amir Coffey who had 29 points. To me this was a big win because even though Rutgers isn't very good, every Big Ten win is important, especially at home. It was also nice to see Amir Coffey come alive because I think for this team to be good, he's going to need to step up. On Wednesday night though, the Gophers looked horrid as they lost 68-95 to Illinois. This was a terrible loss as they looked out of sync and let Illinois do whatever they want. It was very upsetting as a fan because Illinois isn't very good and a game that the Gophers could've won. But the Gophers will have to look ahead as they come home and play Penn State on Saturday. This should be a good game as both teams have shown signs of being a good team, but haven't quite gotten over the hump. This will be a good test for the Gophers to see where they're at.
